Girl in Rags
by Kimberly Turner

So you wonder why I always dress in rags?
Why my hair’s a mop and I carry old handbags?

While wretched is my appearance I have an honest tone
I’m an old soul and humanity to the bone

I dress this way for the poor and beaten down
For those troubled souls I see all across town

And odd is my appearance because there’s so much depth
I pray for those who died in traumatic death

I wear it for the thousand who died
Who believed God was not on their side

While depressing are my concerns I keep a happy tone
I’m optimistic and I know I’m not alone

I have faith that people have faith
I believe that people do believe
I believe that people love to love
            But may hesitate
